Phi Phi Islands Overview


Phi Phi ranks in the top 5 scuba dving destinations in Thailand. Limestone cliffs rise dramatically out of the sea and plunge straight back down underwater, forming the colourful soft coral walls for which Phi Phi is famous. There are more than 15 different dive sites with many rugged walls, interesting caves and cavern penetrations. Swim-through entrances are often obscured by dazzling clouds of Glassfish and Gorgonian Sea Fans harbouring pipefish, seahorses and shrimpfish, keeping even the most experienced scuba divers entertained for days.

The dive site of Hin Bida is a large flat rock which can be seen riding above the water at low tide. It is located to the east of Koh Bida Nok in the open sea, this is a popular dive site in the Phi Phi area but diving here is dependent on tides and waves. Below water you’ll find fantastic soft coral on the southeast finger, a staghorn coral field on the northeast, sea fans and mushroom corals on the northern end.

Leopard Shark Phi Phi

Hin Bida offers regular sightings of Leopard sharks, Hawksbill Turtles, Octopus and Cuttlefish. Even without these sights the dive is still enjoyable with the more common species such as Triggers fish, Snapper, Groupers and colourful Moorish Idol, Angel fish, Butterfly fish, Anemone fish and beautiful Yellow Trompet fish. Eagle rays and Whale sharks can also be seen at the right time of year.

Maya Bay Phi Phi

Maya Bay is a highly popular dive site located on the west tip of Koh Phi Phi Ley. Multicolour sea fans, soft coral, Table coral, Staghorn coral and Mushroom coral adorn the northwest rock face. Several swim-throughs are located throughout the dive site as well. Cave and wall dive enthusiasts head to the southwest corner of Maya bay where you will find the largest underwater cave of the Island.

Turtle at Phi Phi Islands

Look out for Lobsters and many different kinds of nudibranchs along the wall of this dive site, Moray eels and Scorpion fish can be found hiding in the rocks. Some colourful fish like Moorish Idol, Angel fish, Butterfly fish, Anemone fish. Snapers and Groupers are also common here. Turtles, Octopus, Leopard Shark are often seen as well.

Losama Bay, Phi Phi

Losama Bay is famous amongst snorkelers and divers alike due to the shallow areas of coral. The middle of the bay holds beautiful Golden Sea fans and a channel cutting through the rock to the south side. The southwest wall offers multi-coloured soft coral and sea fans. It’s even possible to dive the east corner of Losama bay where rocky formations are interspersed with staghorn coral, sea whips and sea fans.

Seahorse, Diving Krabi

Losama Bay offers a large amount of Lionfish, various Trigger fish, Sea Snakes and scorpion fish. Colourful reef fish; Bullet head Parrotfish, Butterfly fish, Moorish Idol, and many beautiful damselfish call Losama Bay home. Schools of two spot snappers can be found in the bay, yellow tiger-tail seahorses at the southwest wall and banded boxer shrimp in the cracks.

Scuba diving Phi Phi

Koh Bida Nok ("The outer island") is located on the south side of Koh Phi Phi Ley. This is a highly recommended dive site with guests returning time and time again. The impressive coral reef is a wonder to explore. The north side consists of a wall decorated by multi-coloured soft coral. A group of Golden sea fans and patchy stanghorn coral sits upon a sloping reef on the east side. A small bay rests to the south close to a large pinnacle decorated by multi-coloured soft corals, sea whips, sea fans and table coral.

Scuba Diving Phi Phi

Blacktip Reef Sharks are more common to this Phi Phi dive site and are usually found in the shallows on the east side. Leopard sharks, Turtles and Blue-Spotted Stingray san be seen here too. Don’t forget to look up as many times you may see schools of Squids and Crocodile needle fish swimming close together. This dive site is often visited by Whale Sharks and oceanic nomads like Rainbow runner or Tuna.

Koh Bida Nai - Phi Phi

Scuba diving Phi Phi

Koh Bida Nai or "The inner island" is located between Koh Phi Phi Ley and Koh Bida Nok. The impressive coral reef here is a wonder to explore. The northern side holds beautiful Golden sea fans and soft coral. The east side consists of fringing reef sloping gently outward to sandy areas. The south area has many patches of staghorn coral filtering out to fantasia reef. The west side consists of beautiful rock formations leading to an easy swim through.

Scuba Diving Krabi

Blacktip Reef Sharks are often seen in the shallow water on the west and east side of this dive site. Leopard sharks lie sleeping on the sandy areas. Chevron Barracudas, Big Eye Trevally and Turtles can often be seen at fantasia reef. Yellow-edged Morays find their way through the sponge coral, also Batfish, Lion fish, Snappers, Groupers, Tigger fish, Pocupine Puffer fish are common species here. Some of oceanic nomads like Tuna; Rainbow Runners also frequent the area.
